11 Things You MUST Do This Autumn

So I know it’s not officially autumn yet, although it may as well be with this awful cold-like weather we’re having. I just love getting into the ‘cozy vibe’ as soon as I can, plus when September rolls around it just feels like autumn is here, especially with the kids back in school and the countdown to Christmas beginning. I’ve already seen advent calendars and Christmas cards making their way into the shops, every year it seems to be earlier and earlier. Also, do some shops just completely FORGET about Halloween?! Because they seem to fill the shelves up with Christmas goodies and the Halloween/Fall related get pushed to a tiny corner of the shop… whats with that?!

Here’s my list of things you MUST to do this Autumn, no this isn’t a ‘carve a pumpkin, make a wreath‘ type list (who has time for that?!). These are things I will personally be setting out on doing to insure I enjoy this autumn time before the snow and ice reach us come December.

1. AN AUTUMNAL PHOTOSHOOT

I currently have a maternity photo-shoot ‘in the works’. I and my photographer (and real life bff) Shannon have been pinning-like-crazy on our Pinterest board with all sorts of photographic ideas for the perfect on-location autumn maternity shoot. The beauty of the coloured leaves and (hopefully) crisp foggy morning skies will give us some stunning photographs. I’ll be sure to share them all with you once they’re done!

2. LONG BUBBLE BATHS

Since the nights are creeping in whats better than getting in a bath in the early-evening to soak away all your worries from the day? Nothing. Filling that tub right up with bubbles so you can dive straight in and lounge about. To help get yourself relaxed for the evening try adding a couple drops of essential oils, like lavender or peppermint so you can drift away easily come bed time.

3. GO ON MORE BIKE RIDES

I and Bradley went on a couple of bike rides this summer, but I found it far too warm really, so I think going out on these colder days together might be much nicer experience if I remember to wrap up warm. We already go on nightly-walks so we might start making it a bike ride instead so that we can get some blood pumping instead of walking around hand-in-hand shivering.

4. WEAR OVERSIZED-COMFY CLOTHING

Ok – Everyone’s gotta love this one right? We can all pull out our knitted jumpers and cardigans from the back of the wardrobe, and squeeze back into our black-ankle boots, because, it’s cold again! This works especially in my favor this year since being pregnant it’s been difficult to fit into any summer clothes! Crop tops (I believe) are a big no-no for the pregnant-me, no one wants to see my larger-than-usual belly, with new pregnancy hairs AND a belly button that’s turned inside-out… yum.

5. COZY FILM-WATCHING

Getting dark at 3:30 pm on a Sunday? Time to get snuggled up on the couch with your fav ever person (or alone, that’s cool!), get some hot chocolate made with all the cream and marshmallows and flick Netflix on. Choose an easy-going film, that you will most likely not fall asleep too.

6. TRY AN ‘AUTUMNAL’ COFFEE

Yes – I am talking about those ‘Pumpkin Spiced Latte’ things. I’ve never tried one, or any of their other ‘autumn range’ drinks, I’ve tried plenty of their Christmas drinks (drools at a toffee-nut-latte), and I kinda feel like I need to see what all the fuss is about. Does it really taste like Pumpkin…? Or is that a silly question?

7. GO TO A BONFIRE

Now, we do this most years on Bonfire Night. There’s a lovely show just down the road that happens each year, including fireworks, hot-dogs and sparklers. It’s not super busy, there’s the perfect ratio of field-to-persons, meaning it’s not super cramped, and because it’s so close to home it feels so communal! If you get a chance to get yourself by a bonfire, big or small you should certainly do it!

8. BAKING

If you know me you’ll know that I hate despise cooking, but baking on the other hand I can get on board with. Maybe it’s the sweet-tooth in me but anything whipped up with some butter and sugar can’t go wrong, can it?! I’ve seen a recipe for some coffee and walnut cookies on Pinterest that I’m dying to try so I might make them!

9. KNIT SOMETHING

Now, I’ve been knitting this one blanket since about April, and I just keep forgetting about it. It’s got beautiful autumn type colours in it, blending in an ombre type way, it would be beautiful if I would just finish it. It’s roughly 6X6 inches at the moment, but my other blanket which I finished back in March is 30X30, and I need them to match. Would you ever knit yourself anything? Or perhaps something for a baby you know (smaller things are easier and quicker). I keep telling myself “I will finish this blanket before Baby Zea arrives”.

10. FIND SOMEWHERE NEW TO WALK

Tired of constantly walking around the same parks or places? If you try google-ing local walking spots there are tonnes near by that you never even knew existed! Perhaps try searching for dog-walking spots, as you might get some better results if you’re looking for something less-busy. But please don’t get this confused with dogging spots.

11. GET LOST IN A MAZE

Personally, I really want to get this done! A new maze has opened up about a 15-minute drive from us, and I’d love to go check it out. Especially now the kids have gone back to school it’ll hopefully be quieter, and actually might be a good potential location for an autumn photoshoot. If you’re from Lincolnshire then look out for Uncle Henry’s Maize Maze which is open on weekends.

Have you got any autumn musts that I’ve forgotten about? Let me know so I don’t forget about them this year. We don’t usually ‘do’ Halloween at our house, Bradley’s siblings are too old now, and our street just doesn’t seem to be in to trick-or-treating, but I do have myself a lovely pumpkin-maternity t-shirt to wear on the day, with a big orange pumpkin to go over my bump (super cute)!

Next year we’ll have an almost 1-year-old… I wonder what we’ll dress him as…

(a space cow-boy).
